ABOUT THIS EPISODE

A teenage girl named Cindy enters a cave believed to be haunted by a demonic spirit. Her friend, Donna sees that Cindy is not quite the same after leaving the cave, and must now find a way to save her before it is too late.

When the witching hour draws nea, she will whisper in your ear. Not Mes do come true. This is a horror fiction podcast featuring stories that will shock, disturb and dismay. You're listening to the dark lady podcast. Hello, Cindy, where are you? I've been waiting at the coffee shop for three hours. Who is this? Very funny. It's Donna, your best friend. We've known each other since we were six. Oh, Hey, Anna, is there something wrong? No, I just overslept. It's three in the afternoon. Oh, are you feeling all right? I'm just feeling a little off to day. You're not mad at me, are you? No, why would I be? Because of what happened last night, the bonfire, Hellman's cave. Oh, I'm sorry, Carla and Jamie were just...

...messing around. They didn't mean to be jerks. It's okay. You didn't have to go inside that cave, I know, but I wanted to. It was my choice. All that crap about a demon living in there, it was all byes. They were just trying to scare you. It's just some stupid urban legend. Do you want to talk about it? Talk about what what happened after you went inside the cave, Cindy, nothing, nothing happened. Cindy, you were screaming. You said something bit you. I don't know. It was dark. I was imagining things. What did you I have to go. Okay, I just got on my bike. Do you want me to go to your house for a bit? We can play some games or watch some Netflix or something. No, sorry, not today. Maybe next weekend. See You tomorrow at school then. Yeah, just take it easy, okay. If anything, you can copy my homework at lunch. Thanks, D yeah, don't mention it. Talk to you later by hello, Hey, what happened? We were supposed to meet in the...

...library after school. Oh, sorry, I forgot. It's fine, we can do this over the phone. Do you want to go first? Huh, what are your ideas for the Science Project? Oh, I don't know. Did you fall asleep in class or something? So we're all supposed to do a presentation on symbiotic relationships in the Animal Kingdom. Mr Amira is assigned US parasitic relationships. I know you hate bugs, but hear me out. Have you heard of the horse hair worm? No, so, the phylum Nema to Morpha, also known as the horse hair worm, are long, tentacle like parasites that can grow anywhere from four to fourteen inches long. They are also called the Gordian Worm because of the way they squirm and twist themselves into a loose ball resembling the Gordian Knot. Are you still there? Yeah, you can find these parasites near streams or ponds or swimming pools, bird baths and water bowls too. I've seen it before. Hmm, I said I think I've seen one before where? At my uncle's cabin last summer there was a spider in the bathroom. I hit it with some bug spray and a black worm came out of it. I guess the spider had one for lunch. MMM, no, I'm pretty sure that was the other way around. What do you mean it as here? The horsehair worm lays their eggs...

...in the springtime or early in the summer. The eggs hatch into larva and the larva then insists on plants beside the water, where it is eventually consumed by its host. The horsehair worm can attach itself to grasshoppers, beetles, cockroaches and, in your case, a spider. I see after it is consumed, the larva burrows itself through the host's intestinal wall into its body cavity, where it can feed on the surrounding tissue. Within several weeks to several months, the horse hair worm will grow into a tightly coiled mass. What happens to the host? Give me a second. Here we go. When the metamorphosis is complete and the host is on the water's edge, the horse hair worm emerges from the host's body and swims away. Insects infected with this parasite will die emerge. There's some videos about it online. It's some really nasty stuff. Are you on your laptop? Yeah, here, I'll send you a link. Did you get it? Yeah. Are you watching it? Yeah, what do you see? Some guy just put a praying Mantis in a bowl full of water. Wait for it, okay, Oh God, it's gross right. Can you imagine having one of those things bursting out...

...of your body like that? Cindy, what's wrong? Oh my God, Cindy, are you okay? Hello, hello, hello, Hey, it's me. What's going on? This is like the fourth time I had to call you back. Sorry. Are you having connection problems? You're not hanging up on me on purpose, are you? Cindy, I'm here. You know what, we've been studying way too hard. You want to go see a movie tonight? No, okay, how about you come over to my place. We can have a sleepover. We can order a pizza and and Cindy, what is that? What are you doing? It itches? What itch is my arm where he bit me? So something did bite you?...

Tell it to me again. Tell you what the story the story about Hellman's cave? I don't think that's a good idea. Why? You said you don't believe in urban legends. I don't, then. Why don't you think it's a good idea? Fine, people say that centuries ago, the native Americans used Hellman's cave as a burial ground. Apparently there's hundreds of bodies buried in that cave. Some say they see and hear things when they pass by it, like the voices of dead friends echoing in the darkness, asking them to enter the cave. Some people hear a dog or a goat, a little boy. Um, sure, I guess, but it's not a little boy. No, apparently it's a demon trying to trick you. What's the Demon's name? I think his name is what was that what was what? Um? Didn't you hear it? There was a weird noise. I didn't hear anything. Cindy, are you okay? Sure? Why wouldn't I be? It's just that you've been acting kind of different lately. Whatever it is, you know. You can talk to me about it right I can't, I have to go. Cindy, just wait a minute. Your call has...

...been forwarded to an automatic voice message system. At the tone. Please record your message. When you have finished recording, you may hang up or press one for more options. Hey, cindy, it's Donna. I went to Your House today after school, but no one answered the door, so I put your homework in the mailbox. I don't know what's going on, but I hope you're doing okay. Call me when you can. At the tone, please record your message. High Cindy, it's me again. Mr Ramirez said he couldn't push back our presentation anymore, so I had to go on without you. We did pretty good. We got an a and just two heads up. Ramirez said he needed to talk to you the principal too. They said they were having trouble reaching your mom. Okay, call me if you need anything. Please leave your message Cindy, it's Donna. I haven't seen you in three weeks. What's going on? I'm worried. Call me. The Mailbox Spool and cannot accept any messages at this time. Goodbye,...

Cindy. Are you there, Cindy? What? I didn't get a chance to welcome you back. We all missed you, Cindy. Yes, is it true? Is What true? Did you start a fire in the girls bathroom at school? Yes, why? Why not? A you can get expelled for this. You could go to jail. What's wrong with you? What's wrong with me? I have a better question. Why are you so obsessed with me, calling and texting me every day? Really, don't you have anything better to do, Cindy? What was our science project about? Oh yeah, parasites. Right, if you want to talk about parasites, Donna, why don't you take a good look at yourself in the mirror?...

What? You're a control freak. You're always telling me what to do. That's not true. You've always been such a pain in my ass. I've never liked you. In fact, I despise you. Why are you saying this to me? Stop talking, Cindy. You're sick. You need to get help. Talk again and I will rip your Penner. Cindy Darna, make it up. It hurt. Cindy, hang on, I'm coming over. Just hang on nine, one, one, what is your emergency? She's dead. WHO's dead? Cindy, she was my best friend. What is your name? Anna? Where are you? Donna, eighteen o four cherry drive. Tell me what happened. Her guts are all over the floor. Send help.
